Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center Publishes Technical Data and Computer Software Handbook (Aug. 28, 2015)

The Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center’s newly revised handbook entitled Acquiring and Enforcing the Government’s Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software Under Department of Defense Contracts: A Practical Handbook for Acquisition Professionals, has numerous space acquisition examples throughout. It’s a very practical handbook to acquiring technical data and computer software rights at every stage of a system’s life cycle—a critical consideration in controlling life cycle costs.

Defense Undersecretary Kendall addresses “Better Buying Power 3.0” to Air Force’s Space Acquirers (September 24, 2015)

On Sept. 23, 2015, Frank Kendall, Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, addressed an “All Call” at the Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center. Kendall spoke about DoD’s strategic guidance and how it influences and affects SMC’s mandates, goals, and commitments. The undersecretary expressed the need for a “paradigm change” in how the Air Force operates in space. He is also concerned about the United States’ potential loss of technological superiority.
